History of Westport Yachts

Founded in 1964 as a manufacturer of commercial vessels designed to meet the needs of fishing fleets in the challenging waters of the Pacific Northwest, Westport delivered its first commercial craft in 1965. From there, the company expanded into passenger ferries. To date, Westport has built more than 200 commercial vessels.

From 1984 to 1997, Westport delivered scores of hulls to shipyards around the world. During its 50-year history, it has grown and expanded, establishing a pedigree of quality and state-of-the-art production design. Ultimately, the shipyard developed a series of popular, blueprinted composite superyacht models ranging from 30 to 50 metres. In addition, Westport builds the 26-metre Pacific Mariner by Westport luxury motor yacht.

The company was purchased in 2014 by a Louisana-based investment group headed by Gary Chouest, who is also a Westport yacht owner.

Notable Westport Yachts

The shipyard introduced the largest yacht in its range, the 50-meter Westport 164, in February 2006 with the christening of Vongo, a Donald Starkey designed tri-deck motor yacht that accommodates 12 guests.

Specialisations of Westport Yachts

Westport operates three shipyards in Westport, Port Angeles, and Hoquiam, Washington, as well as a sales office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Its series-built models, offered under the Westport and Pacific Mariner by Westport nameplates, feature all-composite construction. Westport’s manufacturing philosophy is patterned after that of many business jet makers in that it follows an extensive and detailed development process where new designs must meet specific design and performance standards.
